Colchester to Southeast Shoal Littoral Cell Study

Friday, December 6, 2019

The Colchester to Southeast Shoal littoral cell is located on the north shore of Lake Erie in the shallow
western basin. The study objectives were to:

  • Calculate historical shoreline change rates, including trends for the lake bottom and Southeast Shoal;
  • Quantify historical sources of new sediment for the Colchester to Southeast Shoal littoral cell, such as
    bluff recession;
  • Assess the direction and magnitude of longshore sediment transport within the littoral cell.
    Additionally, the potential for sediment exchange between the Port Alma to Southeast Shoal and
    Colchester to Southeast Shoal littoral cells will be determined. Ultimately, this will provide the
    necessary data to finalize recommendations for erosion mitigation along the east side of Point Pelee
    National Park (PPNP) should this be desired in the future;
  • Complete preliminary sediment budget calculations for the Colchester to Southeast Shoal littoral cell
    and
