Tania Jobin, Chair of the Essex Region Conservation Authority, has issued the following statement:
“The Essex Region Conservation Authority agrees there should be zero tolerance toward racism, prejudice and discrimination. It has come to our attention that one of our municipally appointed Board members has used language in recent social media posts that is inconsistent with the beliefs of our organization.
We agree with the Town of Essex and Mayor Snively that there is no place for these kinds of damaging statements in our community or society. We urge Councillor Vander Doelen to respond to his Mayor’s request to retract his statements and issue a public apology.
We recommit to making certain that Conservation Areas remain safe spaces for people to enjoy and participate in equally and equitably, and to ensuring inclusive dialogue with when it comes to informing local environmental policies and concerns.”
