Essex – The Essex Region Conservation Authority is seeking nominations from youth aged 16 to 29 across Windsor-Essex interested in making a positive impact on the local environment as Youth Environment Ambassadors. The selected candidates will work with ERCA for one to two year terms to achieve a wide range of environmental objectives such as participating in various events, festivals, workshops, meetings. ERCA Youth Environment Ambassadors will also work with other partners and agencies at the annual Earth Day celebration, the Great Global Cleanup in the Detroit River watershed and other community restoration activities. By participating in the YEA Team, all interested individuals are required to fill out an online application form to express why they would be a good fit in 2020. The deadline to apply is January 31 2020 at 4pm.
“Young people need opportunities to experience and learn from nature in order to become the future decision makers who will take responsibility for the stewardship of the planet,” said Gina Pannunzio, ERCA’s Partnerships and Outreach Coordinator. “Hands on learning is the best way for youth to learn about the environment, meet like minded individuals and create a passion for the outdoors.”
ERCA’s YEA Team aims to foster the next generation of environmental stewards and provide a platform for youth to learn about the challenges and opportunities associated with our local environment. Each applicant must currently live in the Windsor-Essex region and be willing to stay in the role for a minimum of one year. Having knowledge of the local environment is considered an asset. Orientation for incoming YEA Team members will take place on Thursday February 13 2020 from 6:30pm to 8pm, at the Essex Civic Centre, Committee Room C, 360 Fairview Avenue West, Essex, Ontario.
