Project Purple

Calling all citizen scientists – Hillman Marsh needs your help!

Purple Loosestrife is an invasive species that came to North America in the early 1800s. It has spread rapidly due to its tolerance of different environments, and is often found in wetlands. One plant alone can produce two million seeds in a growing season and out competes native plants causing an overall decline in biodiversity.

Join ERCA staff for a unique one day experience learning about this invasive plant and gain knowledge on different management strategies. Citizen scientists will work in groups to map out hot spots and remove the invasive plant from the marsh!

This event will run rain or shine from 10am to 2pm at Hillman Marsh Conservation Area. Citizen Scientists will be provided more detailed instructions upon registration. Registration is required as there are limited spots available.
