Windsor – The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) is inviting guests from across the region to plant a tree this Earth Day at the Earth Day Tree Planting Celebration in the City of Windsor, thanks to event sponsors ENWIN Utilities Ltd. and Green Sun Rising, and with support from CUPE 543.
“ERCA has hosted an annual Earth Day Tree Planting in the City of Windsor since 1999,” said Danielle Breault Stuebing, ERCA’s Director of Communications. “Over the past 25 years, nearly thirty-seven thousand trees have been planted in the City of Windsor as a result of this event. We are so grateful to the many sponsors and event partners who have made this possible over the years. We are also thankful to the thousands and thousands of people who have joined us to plant these trees. Know that you have made a difference!”
“ENWIN is honoured to continue supporting the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) and its Earth Day Tree Planting event,” said Garry Rossi, President and CEO of ENWIN Utilities Ltd. “We would like to thank ERCA for their environmental stewardship of our community and for providing us with the opportunity to participate in this important initiative, which aligns with ENWIN's corporate values. On behalf of our team, we extend our congratulations to ERCA for organizing another successful Earth Day event.”
Green Sun Rising, major suppliers of solar systems for commercial, municipal and residential applications and long-time supporters of tree planting efforts, has become a co-sponsor of this year’s Earth Day Tree Planting event. “Planting trees is one of the best ways to counter climate change,” says President Klaus Dohring.
The event will take place on Sunday, April 28 along the Ganatchio Trail near Wyandotte and Florence. Opening ceremonies will begin at 10am, with the planting of nearly 2300 trees to follow. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own shovel, if possible. There will be a limited supply of tree planting tools available to share. Parking is available at Riverside Kiwanis Park/Pump Track parking lot, McHugh Park parking lot and various public parking lots along Riverside Drive east. Use the Ganatchio Trail system to arrive at the Earth Day site.
Groups of 10 or more are encouraged to sign up as a Green Team to receive a certificate of participation. Green Teams can sign up until April 21 at https://essexregionconservation.ca/earthday .
The Essex Region Conservation Authority is a public sector organization established by the Province in 1973, and governed by local municipalities.
